Description

TPU85A 3D Printing Filament

3D META's TPU85A 3D printing filament is a soft, highly flexible thermoplastic polyurethane engineered for prints that need rubber-like elasticity, grip, and shock absorption. At Shore 85A hardness, TPU85A delivers a soft, pliable feel with excellent stretch and recovery — perfect for grips, seals, wearables, and any application where the part needs to flex, bend, and bounce back. Combining soft-touch comfort with TPU's outstanding abrasion and tear resistance, TPU85A is the go-to choice for makers who need real flexibility. Like all 3D META filaments, TPU85A is manufactured to strict quality standards and supplied on recyclable plastic spools.

Key Features of TPU85A 3D Printing Filament

Soft Shore 85A Hardness: Highly flexible, rubber-like feel with excellent elasticity and stretch.

Outstanding Elasticity and Recovery: Stretches and bends repeatedly without permanent deformation.

Excellent Abrasion and Tear Resistance: TPU's hallmark wear performance, ideal for parts subjected to repeated handling or friction.

Manufactured with High-Quality Materials: Premium TPU base for reliable extrusion and consistent flexible performance.

Good Chemical and Oil Resistance: Stands up to many common solvents, oils, and greases.

Strong Layer Adhesion: Excellent inter-layer bonding maintains flexibility and tear resistance throughout the part.

Strict QA Manufacturing: Every batch is checked for diameter, hardness, and print performance.

Applications for TPU85A 3D Printing Filament

TPU85A is the right choice for applications that need real flex, grip, and softness:

Grips and Handles: Soft-touch grips for tools, handles, and ergonomic accessories.

Seals and Gaskets: Custom seals, O-rings, and gaskets for prototype and low-volume applications.

Wearables and Accessories: Watch straps, wristbands, and flexible accessories with skin-friendly softness.

Protective Cases and Bumpers: Phone cases, equipment bumpers, and protective covers that absorb impact.

Soft Toys and Pet Products: Flexible toys, pet accessories, and comfort items where soft touch matters.

Note: Soft TPUs are challenging to print on Bowden extruders. A direct-drive extruder with a short, constrained filament path is strongly recommended. Print speeds should be kept low (15–30 mm/s) for best results.

Storage and Drying for TPU85A Filament

TPU absorbs moisture rapidly and prints best when thoroughly dried:

Store in a Cool, Dry, Dark Environment: Use airtight containers or vacuum-sealed bags with fresh desiccants at all times.

Drying Recommendations: Dry TPU85A before every print. Use a filament dryer, food dehydrator, or enclosed 3D printer at 50–60°C for 6–8 hours.

FAQs

1.      What does Shore 85A hardness mean?

Shore 85A is a measure of softness on the Shore A scale — roughly equivalent to a soft pencil eraser or a soft tire tread. TPU85A is soft and highly flexible, with excellent stretch and recovery.

2.      What temperature should I print TPU85A at?

Print at 220–240°C with a heated bed at 50–60°C. Keep print speeds low (15–30 mm/s) and disable retraction or use very small retraction settings to avoid filament jams.

3.      Can I print TPU85A on a Bowden printer?

It's possible but challenging. Soft TPUs like TPU85A print best on direct-drive extruders. If you have a Bowden setup, expect to slow print speeds significantly and tune retraction carefully.

4.      How is TPU85A different from TPU90A?

TPU85A is softer and more flexible than TPU90A. Choose TPU85A for the most elastic, rubber-like prints; choose TPU90A for slightly stiffer parts that are easier to print and handle.
